Sakai Koukodou was founded in Kanda Awajicho in Meiji 3 as a business of appraisal and reprint of Ukiyo-e. Founder Toubei Sakai is the eighth merchant owner in Shinshu Matsumoto continuing from the Edo period, and his father, the seventh owner Yoshiyuki Sakai deepened friendship with a famous Ukiyoe artist such as Katsushika Hokusai and Utagawa Hiroshige from a young age. The Ukiyoe collections collected from that time are kept carefully now (it is kept at the Ukiyoe Museum of Japan now)

Also in close contact with Sakuma Shozan, a philosopher of thinking at the end of the Tokugawa period, the study number "Koukodou" that I received at that time was carefully handed to the present as a cherished name.
